Really Struggling Hello ladies, lately I have been really struggling with my sexuality, I consider myself to be bi however, recently I have found myself to be more drawn to women. However, I do have one big problem, I am a Catholic moderate pro-life Republican. I know most Lesbians would rather have sex with a man than to vote Republican so how do I reconcile my sexuality with my religious/ political beliefs. Is there anyone out there who feels like a square peg anywhere she goes. I don't think I would be accepted as a woman who loves other women in Catholic/Republican circles, I also don't think I would be accepted as a Catholic/Card-Carrying Republican within GLBT circles. Please everyone please save your flaming, this is a hard enough predicament I find myself in so I really need HELPFUL feedback not a bunch of flaming.

This isn't a flame but real advice - every human being on this planet is different. Being lesbian or bi only gives them one commonality as a group. Every other political belief/religious belief is going to vary. Don't assume that we're all the same. We're not. There are probably some women out there who are very similar to you, but if you approach them with a prejudgement of who they are and what they believe, they're not going to like it any more than you would. Keep an open mind.

I know three: A couple I have no time for but there is one who I do respect. I think the "fiscal conservative" _ pro business platform of the Republican party is what they were the most drawn to; the idea of small government. (I won't go into arguments for or against that...just stating what I believe their views to be.) As Uppy already mentioned, Log Cabin Republicans probably would fit the bill for you. From a dating perspective, I think one of the basic problems most would have with both the Catholic and Republican platform you're supporting is that both are VERY anti-gay right now. Any relationship you have with a woman would not currently be accepted in either circle. If I were getting into a relationship with someone in that situation I'd want to know "why" (i.e. why are you Catholic and why are you a Republican) and "what are you doing to try to change the situation?" Because without trying to change the situation, you would in essence be supporting someone who is intent on denying and even potentially harming you and me. And I have to admit, I'd find that odd. Hopefully you don't view this as a flame because it's not meant to be; there's no rancor in what I write. It's also not anti-Republican per se. I think opposing viewpoints are often good for a country. In fact, I wish the US had even more viable parties. There's a lot of people out there who (I believe) don't feel their interests are really being represented because currently we're squeezing everyone into some very narrow ideologies.

Clarification When I say "change the situation" that could well be from inside the party.

There are plenty of gay Republicans and some of them are even Pro-life. As far as being Catholic goes, I have friends who still consider themselves Catholics. You, like them, will just have to rationalize to yourself remaining a member of a religion that hates you.

I honestly don't see how anyone CAN reconcile the two. I can only imagine how hard it must be to feel that way. I suggest, as I do for most problems, talking to a counselor or joining a formal or informal support group. I can't imagine being a republican(or, increasingly, a democrat), but that wasn't your question. Now that corporate fascism is fully operational, it's immaterial which party you identify with anymore.

Just stay in the closet. Whenever your girlfriend wants to talk politics, have sex instead.

Prepare yourself to be hated by the very people you thought were your friends. This life is harsh when you encounter the sanctimonious--they will want to kill you in the name of Jesus Christ. Or, just keep playing it on the down-low and maintain your standing in the various groups, Mr. Swaggert. FYI: the Log Cabin Republicans were dissed by the Nat'l Republican party in the x election, which in fact, returned large amounts of campaign contributions as a way of denouncing homosexuality (the Republicans gave money back--how's that for taking a stand).

I'm with you girl bi-catholic and republican...sounds strange. I know. But, I don't see as there is anything wrong with that...I love men, but I have a really strong desire to be with women..hasn't happend yet, so we will see.
